Welcome to Retirement

Over the past 34 years, Kemp Financial Management has had the joy and privilege of helping clients make the well-deserved and exciting transition into retirement.  Margaret Vasquez, one of our newest Kempville members, found herself heading into retirement a little earlier than anticipated due to Covid, but she is quickly settling into the many delights of her newfound freedom.

Margaret worked in the banking industry for many years. She started out as a teller, but quickly captured the attention of a President at the bank, and she was moved up the ladder in no time. She retired from Citizens Business Bank after having worked at multiple banks throughout her career. Since getting to know Margaret, it is no surprise to hear about her successfully navigating her working years!  We asked Margaret a couple questions about her retirement.  We love her responses!

What excites you the most about retirement? Getting out of bed whenever I want, not having to get up at 3 am every morning. Reduced stress level. Spending more time with family and friends whenever I want, and of course more time each day with my sweet French bulldog Zoey. Being able to plan for more than three weeks’ vacation a year. We just get up and go whenever we like and wherever we like. We don’t have to worry about spending vacations with family, which always comes first, and not having enough annual vacation accrual to go somewhere we want to go on our own.

What do you miss the least about your career? Office politics. In large organizations it will probably always be the office politics.  I gained exposure to various management techniques for working in large team-oriented environments throughout my career. As influential as that experience has been for my career, office politics at times did not allow me to take ownership of tasks that affected the organizations long-term strategic goals.

Margaret is a long time Yorba Linda resident and remembers a time when there was nothing in the city but avocado and orange groves. In addition to her Yorba Linda home, she enjoys her vacation home located in beautiful Corona Beach, Mexico. Her and her husband Mark love to spend time at a nearby resort and have the benefit of trying out the delicious local cuisine. She loves spending time there and envisions going more frequently. She recently obtained the Fast Pass for going back and forth across the border more easily. The best part of all is her ability to travel there even mid-week, thank you retirement! Margaret also looks forward to having the flexibility for road tripping around the U.S. and plans to eventually travel to New Zealand and the Rhine in Germany.

Travel isn’t the only thing keeping Margaret busy these days. One of her first tasks upon retirement was a kitchen remodel, which she completed earlier this year. She also enjoys gardening. Her yard in Yorba Linda is decorated with a decorative owl she purchased in Mexico, and she hopes to add a roadrunner to her collection soon. Margaret recently welcomed her fourth great grandchild on April 25th and loves being a grandparent! By the sounds of it, for Margaret the fun has only just begun.

Thank you, Margaret, for sharing your joy and enthusiasm for your newfound freedom! Congratulations from all of us at KFM!
